Mr. Long determined a quorum was present and called the meeting to order.  Pursuant to state code §9-6a-4, Dr. Campbell moved to adjourn to executive session; Mr. Bailey seconded.  Motion passed.

Returning to the regular session, Mr. Long indicated that the only agenda item to be considered was the Presidential Search Committee’s recommendation for the next President of Concord University.

Mr. Bailey moved to accept the recommendation of the Presidential Search Committee to offer the position to Dr. Gregory Aloia.  Mrs. Sayre seconded.

Mr. Rogers expressed his appreciation to the search committee and indicated he believes the chosen candidate will lead the University admirably.  He indicated the vote was close; 11 members voted, six for Dr. Aloia, five for Dr. John David Smith.

Mr. Bailey asked the record indicate that he was offended by accusations by many over the past few months that the process was less than fair.  He reported that the process was ethical and outstanding.  Mr. Rogers concurred and refuted the notion that the process was “cut and dried.”  Mr. Long thanked the Presidential Search committee members for their dedication, sacrifice, and integrity.

Mr. Long called for the vote.  Nine for, two opposed.  Motion carried.

Mr. Prince requested a roll call vote:  Mr. Mendez, yea; Mrs. Sayre, yea; Mrs. Anderson, yea; Mr. Bailey, yea; Mrs. Pitzer, yea; Mr. Prince, nay; Dr. Campbell, yea; Mr. Blackwell, nay; Mr. Long, yea, Nr, Rogers, yea.

Dr. Charles Brichford, member of the faculty, thanked the Presidential Search Committee for their work, and indicated that what was perceived as accusations was a fear of the unknown, mainly because the process had been so guarded and faculty felt they were in the dark.

Dr. Campbell moved for adjournment; Mrs. Pitzer seconded.  Motion passed.

Respectfully submitted,

J. Franklin Long, Chair                                               Margaret Sayre, Secretary
