FACULTY TERMINATION DUE TO REDUCTION OR
DISCONTINUANCE OF AN EXISTING PROGRAM
SECTION 1. GENERAL

Scope: This policy establishes the process for
faculty termination because of a reduction or discontinuance of an existing
program as a result of program review.

SECTION 2. PURPOSE
2.1
To establish the process
for faculty termination because of a reduction or discontinuance of an existing
program.
2.2. Reduction or discontinuance of an
existing program is result of
the review of the program in
accordance with CUBOG Policy 5.
SECTION 3. PROCESS
FOR FACULTY TERMINATION
3.1. A
tenured or tenure-track faculty member’s appointment may be terminated because
of the reduction or discontinuance of an existing program at Concord University
as a result of a review of the program, in accordance with CUBOG Policy 5,
provided no other program or position requiring equivalent competency exists.
3.1.1.
If, within two years following the reduction or discontinuance of a
program, a position becomes available for which the faculty member is
qualified, Concord University shall make every effort to extend first refusal to
the faculty member so terminated.
3.1.2. Every effort will be made to reassign an individual to
instructional or non-instructional duties commensurate with the faculty
member’s training and experience.
3.1.3. When financially possible, offers of release time or
leaves of absence will be made to enable terminated faculty to acquire
capabilities in areas of service to Concord University.
3.1.4. When financially possible, faculty development
programs and funds will be used to facilitate this acquisition of new
qualifications.
3.2 Notice
of non-retention
3.2.1. Concord University shall initiate proceedings by
giving a faculty member written notice of such non-retention by certified mail,
return receipt requested.
3.2.2. Formal notification for tenured and tenure-track faculty
shall occur consistent with HEPC Policy 9, Section 10.
