The Bonner Scholars Program at Concord University combines student participation in community service and scholarship. Successful Bonner Scholars must demonstrate genuine concern for others, initiative, the ability to follow through on tasks, and a serious dedication to academic achievement. Please evaluate this candidate in terms of these characteristics. You should feel free to use the back of this form and additional sheets if necessary. Concord is privileged to be the only public institution that is home to the Bonner Scholars Program, now represented at twenty-five colleges and universities nationwide. Should you be aware of other students who might be qualified, please refer them to us.

References

Please select at least three people to complete a reference form for your application. (References may also be in letter form.) At least one of the references should be completed by a supervisor of your community service or a recipient of your service. Reference forms should be mailed directly to the Bonner Scholars Program or enclosed in a sealed envelope and included with your application. All references should be received in our office by the February 1 deadline.

Essay

In a 500-word essay, discuss how your community service activities have influenced you and the impact they have made on your life. Please include a discussion of how you feel these activities have helped others. Please enclose your typewritten essay with your application.

Community Service Activities List

Please attach a typewritten list of all community service and volunteer activities that you have participated in. Include in your list the name of the organization you worked with as well as a description of the services that you provided.

Deadlines

Your application, as well as all reference forms, must be received in the Bonner Scholars Office by February 1. You must also have a completed admissions file in the Concord University Admissions Office, including a high school transcript and standardized test scores (ACT, SAT, TOEFL), as well as a FAFSA Report filed with the Concord University Financial Aid Office, in order to be eligible for a Bonner Scholarship award. You are encouraged to complete this process as early as possible. Any applicant whose file is incomplete will be ineligible to receive this scholarship. No materials will be accepted after the February 1 deadline.
