IS HIGHER EDUCATION FUNNY?
IT CAN BE WHEN YOU WATCH ‘THE HAMMERSTONE’

The Concord Community Players will present the prize winning play The Hammerstone at 8.00pm on February 24, 25, and 26 in the H. C. Paul Theater, Concord College.

The play, written by Jon Tuttle has been produced in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Orlando. The Cast features Jason Najmulski, Ron Burgher, Melanie Arelleno, Chris Bone, Cindy Boyce and Jack Layne.

The Hammerstone is an adult comedy that revolves around a small college with virtually no admission requirements and two aging professors who deal differently, but disastrously, with students whose S.A.T. scores are lower than their cholesterol counts -- and with their own obsolescence. Through their offices come a variety of aggravations in the persons of a completely bewildered baseball player, a smitten spinster, and a gorgeous business major, each of whom serve to remind them that in education come various human responsibilities which sometimes supersede actual teaching.

While the play makes considerable fun of the state of modern American education, and speculates on the collapse of western civilization once the next generation assumes control of it, in the end, it is a positive statement for teaching, and for teachers. The Hammerstone has won the South Carolina Playwrights’ Festival Award.

Proceeds from Play to Benefit Students

All proceeds from the play are used for scholarship assistance to students studying theatre.

So, come, enjoy the show and see the humor in higher education! Tickets are priced $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for Seniors, and $2.00 for students. Reservations can be made beginning February 14th by calling the Box Office 384-5101 between 9am to 4.00pm.
