Funds to Go Towards Scholarships and Library Resources

Concord College will be dialing for dollars as volunteer students, and, for the first time ever, alumni and friends of the College join efforts to raise money for scholarships and library resources. They will be calling February 13 through March 2, 2000.

"Students have always called in the past," stated Doug Machesney, Vice President for Development. "We are pleased that many of our local alumni and friends of the College have agreed to help by joining our students to dial for dollars. So, we raise money from alumni and friends of Concord to allow us to continue to provide a quality education. Our fundraising pays off, too. More than 75% of our students receive some sort of financial aid. Many would not be able to attend college if we did not help."

Volunteer and former faculty member Georgia Kelly stated that, "I worked at the College 33 years. Now, I volunteer by helping update the database. This is a great way for me to volunteer, because I know a lot of students and faculty members."

"We mailed post cards to notify alumni and College friends that we will be calling," stated Loretta Young, Director of Annual Giving and Phonathon organizer. "We want to distinguish ourselves from other telemarketers and let our supporters know that their contribution will directly benefit our students. The calls will be placed Sunday through Thursday evenings, between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm."

Concord College Notes: Fall enrollment for 1999 is close to 2,800 with 75% of the student population receiving some sort of financial aid (scholarships and need-based federal financial aid); $9.7 million was awarded in the 98/99 school year and $12.2 million in 99/00, an increase of 26%.
