Students from over 600 schools were invited, and 387 pre-registered for the event. "This is the best turnout I’ve ever seen," stated Michael Curry, vice president for admissions and financial aid. "Most of our guests came from West Virginia, but we also had an excellent turnout from students who live in Virginia, Maryland and Georgia. Many of the kids were interested in pre-med and pre-law programs, as well as education, business, and psychology. Academic divisions, career services, housing, athletics, Greek organizations, and student support services all had representatives for the prospective students to talk to. This event gave the students an opportunity to get answers to specific questions they had. Of course, many parents had questions about financial aid, so our office was represented by four admissions counselors and several staff members who were able to talk dollars and cents."

Many colleges hold events similar to Concord’s Mountain Lion Festival. These events give parents and their college-bound students an opportunity to compare institutions and make decisions that will meet their education needs. Concord College also holds a fall festival just for high school seniors.

Concord College Notes: Fall enrollment for 1999 was close to 2,800 with 75% of the student population receiving some sort of financial aid (scholarships and need-based federal financial aid); $9.7 million was awarded in the 98/99 school year and $12.2 million in 99/00, an increase of 26%.
