The Concord College Book Awards are held annually to reward high school juniors who are interested in attending college. This is the 6th year for the awards to be given by the College. Michael Curry, vice president for admissions and financial aid, selected Critical Thinking: Tools for Taking Charge of Your Learning and Your Life by Richard Paul to award to the students. “I chose a book that will challenge you to think differently,” stated Curry. “Concord College is dedicated to fostering high-level critical thinking skills for every student. Understanding facts alone is not enough. Today, students need to anticipate the unasked questions—to dare to challenge old assumptions in light of new evidence—to meet the demands of a highly competitive world.”
The students participated in an outing to Pipestem State Park followed by the book award ceremony as part of a banquet. Book Award Coordinator Autumn D. Swick served as master of ceremonies and Vice President for Admissions and Financial Aid Michael S. Curry provided the keynote address. Director of Admissions Jim Huffman presented the awards.
