ATHENS, WV May 9, 2001
The Concord College Annual Honors Banquet was held Thursday, April 26, 2001, to honor students who achieved a 3.0 grade point average (or higher), and to honor students who excelled in their field. Those who graduated with honors in August 2000 and December 2000, or will be graduating with honors in May 2001 were honored at a banquet hosted by Cardinal Key and Blue Key Honor Societies.

Concord President Jerry Beasley provided a humorous moment for the banquet attendees when he quoted Robert Frost with the assistance of Dr. Elizabeth Roth, assistant professor of English. He then stated, “Many of the honors and awards do not have a monetary value. I promise that I will look for ways that the College can provide financial awards where none exist.”
Academic sponsors for the honor societies are Mary Edna Beckett and Cecilia Fizer. Mary Edna Beckett and Dr. Joseph Marsh first organized the honors banquet in 1961, and Marsh was a special guest at this year’s banquet.
