ATHENS, WV July 24, 2001
When members of Concord College’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Business Honorary and their advisor, Dr. Kendra Boggess, attended the 2001 PBL State Leadership Conference at Greenbrier Community College in Lewisburg, West Virginia, April 6-7, 2001, they came home with winner’s plaques and a new state officer. They took five first place awards, four second place awards, and four third place awards. The newly-elected 2001-2002 State Treasurer is Concord’s D.J. Howell.
The annual conference brings together students from a number of West Virginia Colleges with active PBL chapters. Students get a chance to meet and socialize before they compete against one another on business exams.
Independent members of the state's business communities judge student’s oral presentations, while advisors score their objective exams. The exams covered 25 business content areas this year and seven students from Concord received honors.

Quinwood, WV: Jarrod O’Dell, First Place in Economics, First Place in Management
Union, WV: Aaron Bostic, First Place in Accounting for Professionals, Second Place in Economics
Patherson, VA: David Jeremy Howell, Third Place in Business Principles, Third Place in Computer Applications
Students who win First and Second Place at the State level are eligible to compete at the national contests.

Concord College Notes: Concord business graduates have a history of high performance on post-exit examinations, such as the CPA licensure examination, and they report themselves to be satisfied in their careers. The business division is fortunate to have highly credentialed full-time faculty, with 82% holding doctorates or CPA credentials. Adjunct instructors also hold impressive credentials. Among them are two Ph.D.s, six Juris Doctorates, four MBAs, six CPAs, and an assortment of other professional degrees. These individuals are actively involved in the business community and generally hold high-ranking positions, which give them an experience base helpful to students.
