High School Juniors Honored at Concord
The Concord College Book Awards are held annually to reward high school juniors who are interested in attending college. This is the 7th year for the awards to be given by the College.
Michael Curry, vice president for admissions and financial aid, selected The Passion of the Western Mind by Richard Tarnas to award to the students. "I chose a book that will challenge you to think differently," stated Curry. "Concord College is dedicated to fostering high-level critical thinking skills for every student. Understanding facts alone is not enough. Today, students need to anticipate the unasked questions–to dare to challenge old assumptions in light of new evidence–to meet the demands of a highly competitive world."
The students participated in an outing to Pipestem State Park, on Tuesday, May 7, followed by the book award ceremony as part of a banquet. Dr. James White, assistant professor for political science, provided the keynote address. Director of Admissions Jim Huffman presented the awards.
