FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 10, 2007
Athens,
W.Va. – Concord University Artist Lecture Series will present the Georgia
Guitar Quartet this evening at 8 p.m. in the H.C. Paul Theater.
The
group hails from Athens, Ga., and is comprised of Brian Smith, Jason Solomon,
Phil Snyder, and Kyle Dawkins. The
quartet makes a special effort to bring classical music into an informal
atmosphere enhanced by frequent audience interaction.
The
quartet has performed throughout the United States. They have covered a great
deal of the Southeast as all four were born in the American South. They perform
many original compositions and each individual comes up with new arrangements
for them to play. Though the arrangements vary in musical style, the group
specializes in classical works from the past five hundred years.
The
group is part of the new generation of innovative performing artists who are
changing the face of classical music.
In addition to classical music the band will also perform jazz,
bluegrass, ragtime and Celtic numbers.
The
quartet has released three recordings and is currently completing work on a new
CD, which will be released by Solponticello Records.
Funding
for this event was provided by the West Virginia Commission on the Arts and the
West Virginia Commission of Culture and History.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $2 for non-Concord students.
