Athens,
W.Va. – The 17th annual David S.
Roth Memorial 5K Walk/Run will be held Tuesday, May 8. Registration begins at 5 p.m. in the
lobby of Carter Hall on the Concord University campus in Athens. At 6:15 p.m., walkers and runners will
begin a rolling 3.1 mile race course.
Sponsored
by the Concord University Student Government Association, this annual walk/run
honors the memory of Dr. David S. Roth, who taught English and journalism at
the university from 1969 to 1986.
Dr. Roth was an enthusiastic Mountain Lion fan who actively supported
Concord athletics in his roles as statistician, reporter, and announcer.
All
proceeds from the walk/run will be donated to the David S. Roth Memorial
Scholarship fund. The Roth
Scholarship is awarded on the basis of an annual university-wide writing
competition.
Trophies
will be awarded to runners and walkers in various age and gender categories.
T-shirts
are guaranteed for the first 100 who register and participate.
Following
the race, a drawing will be held for door prizes donated by Aramark Campus
Dining Service, Concord University Bookstore, and three Princeton
businesses: Dandelion Gallery,
Princeton Health and Fitness Center, and Trophies and More.
Aramark
will also donate refreshments of lemonade and fresh fruit.
The
Walk/Run entry fee for students of all ages is $6 (or $5 if pre-registered by
May 7). For other participants,
