BSC & CU McNair Scholars Present at VT

Athens, W.Va. – Six McNair Scholars were invited to participate in the fifth Annual Virginia Tech Undergraduate and Prospective Graduate Student Conference on April 3.

 

Kira Bailey (Poster Presentation):  Effects of Violence and Competition in Sports Video Games on Aggressive Thoughts, Feelings, and Physiological Arousal; Mentor:  Dr. Rod Klein, Associate Professor of Psychology; Concord McNair Program Director

Ms. Bailey is a senior psychology major from Huntington.   

 

Michelle Drake (Poster Presentation):  Bioactivity of Extracts Prepared from Hieracium venosum; Mentor:  Dr. Darrell Crick, Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Mrs. Drake is a senior recombinant gene technology major from Rosedale, Va.

 

Patience Hall (Poster Presentation):  Effect of Stress on Expression of Toll-Like Receptors (TLRs) 2 and 4 During Chlamydia Infection; Mentor:  Dr. Tesfaye Belay, Assistant Professor of Research at Bluefield State College.  Ms. Hall is a junior majoring in applied science at Bluefield State College.  She resides in Bluefield.

 

Nick Massey (Poster Presentation):  Locus of Control and How it is Related to an Appalachian Population’s Health Beliefs; Mentor:  Bob Rhodes, Assistant Professor of Psychology

Mr. Massey is a senior psychology major from Princeton.

 

Jessica Puckett (Poster Presentation):  Screening of Sorrel (Oxalis spp) for Antioxidant and Antibacterial Activity; Mentors:  Dr. Darrell Crick, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Dr. Darla Wise, Associate Professor of Biology

Ms. Puckett is a senior Pre-Professional Biology major from Princeton.

 

Jason Ross attended the event as an incoming member of the 2007 Scholar cohort.  He is a junior psychology major from Princeton.
