Athens, W.Va. – How would you like to continue or complete your higher education studies in a foreign country on scholarship? That possibility is available through the Rotary Club’s Ambassadorial Scholarships program.
The value of this scholarship is $23,000 and will meet the costs of travel to study in another country. “We want this person to be an excellent ambassador between Southern West Virginia and another part of the world,” said Dr. Jerry L. Beasley, scholarship coordinator for Rotary International District 7550 in Princeton, who also serves as president of Concord University. “This person must be a bridge builder, an enthusiastic spokesperson who can communicate the culture, economy, politics, and generally the heart of Southern West Virginia in winning and attractive ways.”
Candidates must have completed at least two years of
university or college course work at the time the scholarship period begins or
have a secondary school education with employment in a recognized vocation for
at least two years. And, application must be made through a local Rotary club
in the applicant’s legal or permanent residence or place of full-time study or
employment. In additional, candidates must meet other criteria as noted in the
application.
Ambassadorial Scholarships is the oldest and best-known
program of The Rotary Foundation — a tradition of excellence since 1947. Rotarians
worldwide provide the funds that make this program such a success. These
generous contributions are an investment in today’s scholars: they represent
Rotary’s faith that these promising students will become tomorrow’s leaders and
will make substantial contributions both to their communities and to the world.
Within the last 20 years, Rotary International has funded students from this area to travel to places such as Australia, Scotland, Germany, and Canada. More of the ideal traits of an ambassadorial scholar, the application, and plausible host countries included in the Rotary International study abroad program are located at the Rotary International website, www.rotary.org.
The deadline for submission is Friday, September 7, 2007.
