CU Announces Events in Celebration of Black History

Athens, W.Va. –  Nancy Ellison, director of multicultural affairs at Concord University, announces the following events scheduled for the spring 2008 semester in celebration of black history:

 

Thursday, February 28, 7 p.m., Student Union State Room:   Martin Luther King Celebration. 

Winners of a writing competition will present excerpts from their essays.  This event is sponsored by a grant from the Higher Education Policy Commission. 

 

Monday, April 14, 1 p.m., Alexander Fine Arts Center Main Theater:  Nikki Giovanni, world-renowned poet, writer, commentator, activist, and educator will speak.

 

Monday, April 14, 9 p.m., Student Center Subway Stage:  K.J. James, one of the country’s most celebrated blues artists and one of the most beloved campus entertainers in the nation will perform. His credits include five consecutive NACA Campus Entertainer-Of-The-Year awards.  This event is sponsored by the Student Activities Committee.

 

All events are free, and the public is invited.
