Beasleys to be honored at Banquet, Friday, May 16

Athens, W.Va. – Organizers are planning a banquet to honor Concord University President, Dr. Jerry Beasley, and his wife, Ms. Jean Beasley, on Friday, May 16. A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center Lobby near the Ballroom. The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Ballroom.

Cost for the banquet is $35, with proceeds, after expenses, going toward University Point, a project that Dr. Beasley has shepherded recently under his tenure, but was launched under the administration of Dr. Joseph Franklin Marsh Sr., who served from 1929 to 1949.

President Beasley will be retiring on June 30 after serving 23 years as president of Concord. He stated in his retirement announcement to the Concord community in April 2007: “Our days at Concord have given me inexpressible joy. The opportunity to do college work in an area one calls home is rare indeed in a profession that often requires moving about the country.

“In 1985, I was asked to lead an already strong institution in which faculty and staff participation in governance was well established. I will ever be grateful for your wisdom and willing work that made the load lighter and the way straighter. What we have accomplished we have done together in shared mission.”

The banquet honoring Jerry and Jean Beasley is in lieu of the alumni banquet normally held the Friday before Commencement.
