Charles W. Pace has more than 40 years of business experience, serving as both an accountant and an attorney, as well as teaching a variety of college classes during his career. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting with a minor in Economics from Marshall University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from West Virginia University College of Law where he was also a recipient of the West Virginia Tax Institute Award.
After receiving his degree from Marshall University in 1968, Mr. Pace went to work for Price Waterhouse & Co. in Charlotte, North Carolina as a tax specialist. He returned to Mercer County in 1971 where he then became the Senior Vice President and Trust Officer for Mercer County Bank. He earned his CPA and began a distinguished accounting career, serving individuals, corporations, and organizations in the region. He used his new certification to not only practice his own public accountancy, but also to teach various accounting courses, as well as some economics courses, as an adjunct professor for both Concord University and Bluefield State College during the 70’s. He also remained with the bank until 1979, and continued his public accountancy practice until 1982.
Once he received his law degree in 1982, Mr. Pace began practicing law, concentrating on the various aspects of taxes, real estate, business planning, exempt organizations, trusts and estates, will and trust drafting, public utility law, and general practice. Along with his practice, Mr. Pace was also an assistant prosecuting attorney for Mercer County from 1988 through 1999 and then became Judge of the City of Principle Municipal Court from 2003 to 2004. Mr. Pace closed his law practice on June 30, 2010, but continues to prepare tax returns and give tax advice to clients.
Mr. Pace is also a member of several professional organizations including the West Virginia State and Mercer County Bar Associations, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, West Virginia Board of Accountancy, West Virginia Society of CPA’s, and a past member of the American Bar Association. He serves in many of his community and alumni associations sitting on the Board of Directors or serving as Chair for many of these organizations.
