Naming, Renaming or Memorial Recognition of Structures, Facilities, Property, Flora, and Organizational Units or Personnel Positions
 
SECTION 1.                GENERAL
1.1       Scope: Rule regarding the naming, renaming or memorial recognition of structures, facilities, property (physical and intellectual), flora, and organizational units or personnel positions of or representing Concord University.

SECTION 2.                POLICY
2.1       Approval by the Concord University Board of Governors is required for the naming, renaming or memorial recognition of structures, facilities, property (physical or intellectual), flora, and organizational units or personnel positions of or representing Concord University.
2.2       Upon the recommendation of an advisory committee composed of representatives from the broad constituency of the university, chaired by the Vice President for Advancement and charged to review all naming, renaming or memorial recognition proposals presented to the Office of the President for consideration, the President of Concord University shall forward for the final review to the Concord University Board of Governors External Affairs Committee and consideration for action by the board as a whole.
2.3       Prior to advancing any proposal for naming, renaming or memorial recognition to the Board of Governors for consideration a thorough character review must be completed involving any associated individuals or entities. Full disclosure of the review’s findings is to accompany all proposals brought before the Concord University Board of Governors.  
2.4       A structure, facility, property (physical or intellectual), flora, and organizational unit or personnel position of or representing Concord University may be named for an individual, if the individual has rendered distinguished service to the institution or made a significant contribution in support of a structure, facility, property (physical and intellectual), flora, and organizational unit or personnel position.
2.5       A memorial may be established in remembrance of an individual or entity that had an affinity for Concord University by patrons who wish to provide support for the creation and continued maintenance of an approved memorial.
2.6       Paid advertising associated with the marketing and promotion of Concord University or any of its programs or units is outside the scope of Policy No. 31.
