Concord University Students of Excellence Summer Academy

Motto of Summer Academy
Students of Excellence Summer Academy bring together high school students from across the state of West Virginia and the eastern United States who show a strong interest in medicine, law, or education.
The Academy enables high school students to achieve success at the college level by helping them to make connections with leaders in one of the three fields of interest: medicine, law, or education. Summer Academy nominees who are selected will participate in cultural team building activities and have hands-on experience dealing in law, medicine, or education.
The goal of the Academy is to educate, demonstrate, and create students to have a better understanding the importance and need for strong public service leaders. Concord University Bonner Scholar's participate in the Academy serving as examples to demonstrate and teach the need for community service and the dedication needed to public service as future leaders.
There is NO COST for Academy attendees. Room, meals, supplies, and special dinners are all provided. Academy Attendees opting to attend Concord University after their high school graduation are guaranteed a scholarship award. Students who successfully complete the Academy are given one (1) hour of college credit.
Successful applicants must:
- Have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0 which includes courses geared for future college attendance in one of the areas of medicine, law or education
- At the time of application: finishing junior year of high school
- Be capable of academic work: working independently and participating in team-based activities
- Be capable of writing and making oral presentations
- Be willing to follow the tenets in the Academy Honor Code
Interested candidates need to submit:
- Student Registration Form (pdf)
- Signed Honor Code (pdf)
- Statement of Permission (pdf)
- 250 word essay written by the student based on their interest of law, medicine, or education.
- Document from your guidance counselor stating a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

The Academy will be held Sunday, June 13, thru Friday, June 18, 2010.All applications for the 2010 Students of Excellence Summer Academy must be submitted to the Office of Admissions by April 15, 2010. Not all nominees will be selected
