Room Dimensions

The following are probable room dimensions for all residence halls. Please note that rooms in North and South Towers are already carpeted and the following windows contain curtains: Wilson Hall, Wooddell Hall, 3rd and 4th floors (only) South Tower. The "inner window" measurements are the inner dimensions needed, for example, with Venetian blinds. The "outer window" measurements include the total height and width of a window (including any wooden frame). Plastic spring loaded rods, rather than metal rods, are strongly recommended for window coverings placed inside the window frame. The floor area is the square portion of a given room's floor. This does not include the floor space which may exist in front of the room door and between fixed closets.

Internet Access

Concord University provides direct fiber optic Internet acess to four residence halls Two portholes, one for each occupant, exist in each residence hall room of the buildings serviced. Of the buildings serviced, direct Internet access is provided in common residence hall space as well, so that lap top computers, if owned, can be utilized in these areas.

In order for your computer to become compatible with the provided University network, an Ethernet Card is required. Below are the University policies regarding Ethernet Cards and their installation.

1. Students may purchase an Ethernet Card from the Computer Center located in White Hall between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (prices are subject to change)

PC cards $30.00/ Wireless card $60.00
Laptop cards $50.00/ Wireless card $60.00
7' Cables $5.00
15' Cables $10.00

2. Students must make an appointment to have their card installed. Please fill in the appointment sheet or call 5291 to set up an agreed upon time.
*Before we can install your card, you must sign a disclaimer stating that neither Concord University, nor the Computer Center staff, are in any way responsible for damages to your computer's hardware or software.

3. Once an appointment is made, one of our technicians will call your room to confirm the appointment, North Tower, Sarvay Hall (women residents only) and Wilson Hall residents are required to meet the computer technician at the lobby of their respective building, and escort them to and from the room, according to residence hall policy.

4. Please note, we can not work on individually owned computers with regards to system hardware, or software concerns (and in most cases, doing so would void warranty stipulations).

5. If installation is provided by anyone other than the Concord University Computer Center staff, no refunds nor exchanges will be provided for damaged Ethernet cards.

Keys

Students will be issued an apartment or a room and suite door key (if applicable) during residence hall check in. Residents are required to report all lost or stolen keys to a Housing and Residence Life staff member immediately. For safety and security purposes, a new lock may be installed and new keys issued to the student and his or her roommates/suite mates. All keys remain the sole property of Concord University and may not be duplicated for any reason.

Room (suite) keys are required to be returned to Housing and Residence Life staff members between each semester and immediately upon discontinuing an academic relationship with the University. Replacement keys are obtained through your Resident Director. To rotate the core of a lock and cut three new keys is a $25.00 fee. To replace a maliciously damaged lock is $125.00.

. Providing your residence hall room, suite or building key to another person is extremely unwise and strictly prohibited.

Lofts

Lofts are permitted in each residence hall. Since not everyone who would like to build a loft knows where to begin, a few loft construction examples are provided below. All lofts built at home and moved to Concord University must adhere to the following specifications:

o Lofts must be free standing. They cannot be bolted, nailed or attached to residence hall walls, floors or   &nbspceilings.

o All materials used to build lofts are required to be fire retardant. When purchasing loft materials, check   &nbspto see if the wood is labeled as treated with UL listed flame retardant coating.

o Lofts cannot, in any way, restrict the use of windows or doorways.

o Lofts may not interfere with access to ventilation or heating, electrical outlets or any fixed items in the     room.

o Lofts should be free of any electrical components.

o Lofts cannot be enclosed. This includes drapes, beads, wallboard, fishnet or other materials.

o Mattress support surface must be 38 inches or more from the ceiling, which places the mattress 32       &nbspinches or more from the overhead light.

o All original furnishings are to be returned to the state in which they were found during check-in.

o Storage is not available for unused bed parts; head/foot boards are easily stored under beds, or behind   &nbspa loft, or in closets.

o Under no circumstances may bed parts be removed from residence hall rooms.

o All loft materials must be removed from student rooms immediately upon separation from the University.

Walls and Windows

Almost any form of tape or putty that is advertised as leaving no residual stain will in fact leave marks on the walls and may result in damage charges. Years of experience has taught us that although masking tape may not be the best substance for hanging materials in your room, it is the best medium with regard to not leaving residue behind; therefore masking tape is the only hanging material permitted in the residence halls. North and South Tower residents may hang items on the provided bulletin board.

Except in Wilson Hall, Wooddell Hall and the 3rd and 4th floors of South Tower, neither window coverings nor window hardware are provided by the University. Window sizes for curtains, blinds, etc. are provided in the Room Dimensions section.

Air Conditioners

Window air conditioners are not permitted in the residence halls. This policy is strictly enforced. However, air purifying devices (which rest on the floor or table) to combat air allergens are encouraged whenever conditions warrant.

Repairs

If repairs are needed, students are asked to call extension 5231 (Housing Office) to initiate a work order which will ultimately be completed by members of the Physical Plant staff. Burned out light bulbs should be reported directly to the Resident Assistant at the front desk of your building so that the building professional custodian and housing staff can be alerted to immediately replace the bulb. All non-emergency maintenance requests will be handled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Maintenance personnel will be dispatched as quickly as possible in response to emergency situations. Students are not authorized to make repairs themselves and will be billed for any damage incurred while attempting to do so.  Submit a work order to Physical Plant at http://repairs.concord.edu/ for repairs on this webpage. Please outline the problem as clearly as possible and be patient.

Fire Safety Equipment and Insurance

For residents' safety, each residence hall is equipped with heat and/or smoke detectors, fire alarm pull stations and fire extinguishers. Please remember tapestries or paper products may never be hung over lights.

Students are strongly encouraged to possess personal property insurance for their belongings. Your family's insurance agent can inform you whether personal items are covered under your family's current homeowner's policy. If you seek personal theft/damage insurance information, one company's pamphlet may be acquired in the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
