Concord College Team Wins Award
Athens, W.Va. - The Concord College SIFE team matched their educational outreach projects against the programs of other SIFE teams at the (Year) 2000 Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Regional Exposition and Career Opportunity Fair held April 6 in Richmond, Va. Concord’s SIFE team received the first runner-up award in their league. The presentation team included: Kevin Harper, president (Danese, W.Va.); Crystal Angles, vice-president (Follansbee, W.Va.); Paula Badova, Ravi Bhalotia, Ivo Bozoukov, Amber Marshall (Daniels, W.Va.), and Richard Strader (Hurricane, W.Va.).
SIFE encourages students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations. They use their knowledge to better their communities through educational outreach projects. The projects presented by the Concord College SIFE team included budgeting, time-management, resume writing and the basics of supply and demand.
Concord College SIFE students presented their outreach programs to a panel of local and national business leaders and entrepreneurs who rated the overall effectiveness of each team’s efforts. Students also met with dozens of corporate representatives from the Richmond business community to discuss job opportunities. Regional champions named at 19 competitions held around the country, as well as Brazil, Central Asia and Mexico, will present their projects at the Hallmark Cards/SIFE International Exposition and Career Opportunity Fair in Kansas City, Mo., May 21-23.
Dr. Jeffrey Woods serves as advisor for the Concord College SIFE team. Dr. Woods was names a Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow in recognition of his leadership and support of the SIFE program at Concord College. According to Dr. Woods, "SIFE students are committed to learning, leadership, and economic development, and help their community by offering basic free enterprise education."

Concord College Notes: Concord business graduates have a history of high performance on post-exit examinations, such as the CPA licensure examination, and they report themselves to be satisfied in their careers. The business division is fortunate to have highly credentialed full-time faculty, with 82% holding doctorates or CPA credentials. Adjunct instructors also hold impressive credentials. Among them are two Ph.D.s, six Juris Doctorates, four MBAs, six CPAs, and an assortment of other professional degrees. These individuals are actively involved in the business community and generally hold high-ranking positions, which give them an experience base helpful to students.
