Dr. Larry Bayless Retires From Teaching
Athens, W.Va. - On Tuesday, April 18, 2000, about 50 well wishers gathered to bid a fond farewell to Professor of Biology Laurence E. (Larry) Bayless in the State Room at Concord College. Bayless has been with the college for 34 years and served under the administration of five college presidents.
"I hate to see him leave," stated Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs April Beavers, "because the students like him, and that speaks volumes!" Retired Professor of Social Studies Bernard Kiernan said, "Larry started shortly after I did, and he is one of our best teachers by far. He has a certain attitude and certain skills that make him a good communicator."
Dianne Bayless, wife of the retiring professor said that they are very excited about the upcoming retirement. "We will be moving to Gulf Islands National Seashore located in the panhandle area of Florida, where we will enjoy our hobbies of birdwatching, diving and snorkeling."
Chairperson of the Department of Biology Roger F. Sheppard, presented gifts from division faculty and staff to the retiring professor, and Vice President and Academic Dean Dean Turner offered remarks about Bayless.
