Law Fraternity Launched at Concord
Athens, W.Va. - Faculty members and students at Concord recently established a local chapter of Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) to provide support and mentoring for students interested in pursuing law as a profession.
Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International is a professional service organization composed of pre-law students, law students, legal educators, attorneys, judges, and government officials. PAD was founded in 1902 for the purpose of promoting professional competency and achievement within the legal profession. It is also the first law fraternity to admit women. Since the beginning, PAD has experienced astounding growth and today is the world’s largest law fraternity with almost 200 pre-law chapters, 179 law school chapters and 94 alumni chapters in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Faculty advisors for PAD are Drs. John David Smith, Charles H. Britchford, Carson Holloway, Jim White, Debbie Curry and Jean Beasley.
“The fraternity was launched to augment our very successful pre-law program. PAD provides a chance for those interested in the legal field to network with other such students nationwide and even worldwide. Additionally, it allows students to explore all avenues of the legal field not just those leading to law school,” stated Dr. Smith.
Felix Quachey, president for the new organization noted that, “PAD will help with professional development for law school aspirants and provide exposure to educational opportunities and career opportunities.”
Members for the new organization include:
