Roth Scholarship Writing Competition Announced
Athens, W.Va. - The Roth Memorial Scholarship Committee of Concord College is now accepting applications for a writing competition for a $500 scholarship. Regardless of major, current Concord College students who have strong writing skills and who plan to enroll in the 2002-2003 academic year are invited to apply.
Application packets are available from Dr. Stephen Rowe, Director of the Marsh Library. Completed applications, including a brief writing sample of the applicant, must be submitted to Dr. Rowe by October 1, 2001. Applicants who are invited by the Committee to proceed to the extemporaneous writing stage of the scholarship competition will write an essay on an assigned topic early in the Spring 2002 semester.
Dr. David Roth, who taught in the Languages and Literature Division of Concord College from 1969 until 1986, is warmly remembered by many of his colleagues, friends and students who have worked to fund this annual award. This scholarship honors Dr. Roth's dedication to the teaching of writing by encouraging excellence in student writing at Concord College.

Concord College Notes: The Communication Arts Department produces the college’s student newspaper, radio programming and television programming. The department also produces theatrical and musical productions. It is organized similar to today’s modern corporation with the students completing projects under both student and faculty supervision.
