High School Seniors May Apply for Bonner Scholarships: Deadline April 15
Athens, W.Va. - The Bonner Scholars Program at Concord College is now accepting applications from freshman entering in the Fall 2002 term. This is a community service scholarship program with a focus on developing experienced, knowledgeable and committed individuals who recognize the needs of our society and each person’s responsibility to serve throughout his or her lifetime.
Program participants are typically first generation college students with a record of academic success, a demonstrated concern for their home community and a strong financial need. Scholars provide an average of 10 hours of community support per week during the school year in return for $1,050 in scholarship funds each semester. Students are also required to participate in summer service programs, as well as leadership and personal development activities. Approximately 20 new scholars are selected each year.
The application deadline is 4:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2002.
Applications or additional information may be requested from the Bonner Scholars Office by calling 1-304-384-6009 or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Concord College Notes: Public service is a very important part of Concord College's mission to the local community. The Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Foundation based in Princeton, NJ, has recognized this commitment to service and endowed the college with funds to establish the Bonner Scholarship Program. This scholarship program provides 80 students with financial support for their education and each student must then provide support to the community through volunteer services. Students remain in the Bonner Scholarship Program for four years. While this program may be found on 23 other college and university campuses, Concord College is the only public institution selected for this honor.
