AEP Supports Higher Education in Southern WV Scholarship Donation Made to Concord College
Athens, W.Va. - AEP West Virginia President, Mark Dempsey, and Manager of Community Services, David M. Langford, supported Concord College’s efforts to educate students in southern West Virginia by providing a gift of $2,500 to the College on Tuesday, April 30. "We decided we wanted to step up our support to Concord College," stated Dempsey. "We had been making contributions of $1,000, and we increased it to $2,500. We recognize the importance of higher education to the state and the communities we serve. A work force that is well educated is the largest, single factor that will draw a business or industry to an area.
"The chairman of AEP spoke at a fundraiser for Concord last fall. We identified 28 AEP employees who had graduated from Concord, and invited those who lived near Charleston to attend the fundraiser. We quickly discovered how loyal Concord’s family of supporters are—those who lived farther away were upset because they were not invited!" stated Mr. Dempsey.
"Our experience is that schools have a lot going on, and we have faith in Dr. Beasley and Concord’s administration that they will use the donation in a way that will support the College’s mission of providing quality baccalaureate education.
"We encourage the employees of AEP to support their alma mater," continued Dempsey. "We have a matching gift program and will match, dollar for dollar, contributions our employees make to their college or university. Employees can learn about the matching gift program at www.aep.com."
Concord College President Jerry Beasley: "Our mission is to provide quality, liberal arts based education, to foster scholarly activities, and to serve the regional community. Support from AEP is vital to our continuing efforts to serve the residents of this area in the most effective manner possible."
