Technology Center at Concord College Receives Federal Funding
Athens, W.Va. - The President's Office of Concord College has announced that through the efforts of Congressman Nick Rahall, the Southern West Virginia Technology Center at Concord College will receive an additional $1.125 million in federal funding.
“Concord College has had a long tradition of success in Southern West Virginia. It continues to be a leader in education and a beacon to its community,” said Rahall. “With these funds Concord can explore the opportunities presented by the rising tide of technology that is emergent throughout our coalfield communities.”
“The campaign to convert White Hall to a regional technology center is in its third year, and with this funding, Congressman Rahall has now secured $3.12 million for the project,” said Jerry L. Beasley, President of Concord College. “We have completed the planning stage and have selected an architect.”
Beasley added, “We are most grateful for Congressman Rahall's interest and for his success in designating federal funds for this regional development,” said Beasley. “With these dollars, Nick Rahall is laying the foundations for the economic development of Southern West Virginia.”
The Southern West Virginia Technology Center will be housed in White Hall, a building to be renovated for this purpose on the Concord Campus. The Center will feature state of the art technologies for instruction, telecommunications, and local business development. The building layout is also being configured to take advantage of future developments in technology so that Concord may remain current and area businesses may take advantage of the Center's services to assure their continuing competitiveness and profitability. The Shott Foundation recently granted $1 million for the development of an Entrepreneurial Studies Program which will be housed in the Center, and a Small Business Incubator will provide space for new business startups which will utilize the technologies and other support services.
