Holiday Performance at Concord, Wednesday, December 10
Athens, W. Va. – The Concord College Collegiate Singers and the ConChords will be performing Wednesday, December 10, in the Main Auditorium of the Alexander Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. The College’s Brass Ensemble will provide accompaniment, and select performances will have piano and organ accompaniment.
In addition, faculty members Dr. Dean Turner and Dr. Tim Mainland will be performing pieces on clarinet and string bass, and Dr. Andy Necessary will be directing and performing with the Brass Ensemble. Betty Wilson will provide piano and harpsichord accompaniment.
Chris Ryder, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music, stated that, “The concert will feature selections from Handel’s Messiah and Canite Tuba, which is a work for choir, brass and percussion. The choir includes 53 students and the music is very uplifting and exciting. The performance will be a great experience; high school students who may be interested in music will really enjoy this concert. The choir is very strong and they are performing very demanding literature.”
The ConChords is a small group of 17 students, which will be singing a wide variety of a cappella selections.
The concert is free to the general public.
