May 4 Walk/Run to Benefit Concord Scholarship Fund
Athens, W.Va. - Looking for a way to vary your fitness routine? Want to feel the satisfaction of supporting a worthy cause? "By participating in the fourteenth annual Roth Walk/Run, you'll log 3.1 miles on your personal pedometer while helping to finance a talented student's college education," says event co-director Tom Davis.
The fourteenth annual David S. Roth Memorial 5-K Walk/Run will be held Tuesday, May 4, at Concord College in Athens. Registration begins at 5 p.m. at Carter Hall. At 6:15 p.m., walkers and runners will start on a gently rolling course that begins at the track and circles the campus twice, with loops through downtown Athens.
Sponsored by the Concord College Student Government Association, the walk/run honors the memory of Dr. David S. Roth, who taught English and journalism at the college from 1969 to 1986. Dr. Roth was an enthusiastic Mountain Lion fan who actively supported Concord athletics in his roles as statistician, reporter, and announcer.
All proceeds from the walk/run will be donated to the David S. Roth Memorial Scholarship fund. The Roth Scholarship is awarded on the basis of an annual college-wide writing competition.
T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 100 to register and participate. Trophies will be awarded to top-ranking runners and walkers in various age and gender categories.
All participants will be eligible to win door prizes donated by the Concord College Bookstore, Trophies and More of Princeton, and Aramark Campus Dining Service. Aramark will also donate refreshments of lemonade and fresh fruit.
The walk/run entry fee for the general public is $12 (early registrants: $10). For students, the entry fee is $6 (early registrants: $5). For information about early registration, contact Tom Davis at 1-304-384-3298 or by e-mail, email@example.com.
