“Picasso” to Be Directed by Concord University Senior
Athens, W.Va. – Concord University senior Aaron Brakefield, from Princeton, W.Va., will be directing the play “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.” The play will run Thursday, December 2 through Saturday, December 4 at 7 p.m., and will be performed in the H.C. Paul Studio Theater in the Alexander Fine Arts Center at Concord University.
“Picasso at the Lapin Agile” is a comedy written by comedian and actor Steve Martin. The play is set in 1904 Paris, France, in the middle of the Bohemian era. The story is about Picasso, Einstein and others meeting in a bar before they reach their prominent fame. When asked about his interpretation of the play, director Aaron Brakefield commented, “I wanted to emphasize Martin’s comedic view on the artistic movements of the time, separating art, science, and even music through the attitudes of the characters, but combining them into one location and grand idea being the Lapin Agile.”
The cast consists of eleven Concord University students, including: Elizabeth Belton, Princeton, W.Va.; Natale Clark, Davis, W.Va.; Thaddieus Conner, Roanoke, Va.; Jeff Faulkner, Beckley, W.Va.; Richard Corey Franklin, Princeton, W.Va.; Mandy Garnes, South Charleston, W.Va.; Stephen Hensley, Valley Fork, W.Va.; John McBrayer, Hurricane, W.Va.; Matt McLean, Etowah, N.C.; Aurelia Rose, Warrenton, Va. and Robert Schumacher, Princeton, W.Va.
