Eleganza to Perform at Concord Thursday, October 27
Athens, W.Va. – Eleganza will perform Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 8 p.m. in the H.C. Paul Studio Theatre located in the Alexander Fine Arts Center.
Eleganza features the musical voices of Rhiannon Giddens and Cheryse McLeod. These two women have been performing together since 2003 and specialize in vocal duet performances. They perform all musical genres: opera, art song, spirituals, jazz, and music theatre.
Giddens, who sings soprano, graduated from Oberlin Conservatory and pursued graduate studies both at Oberlin and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has worked with conductors such as Ward Holmquist, artistic director of Lyric Opera Kansas City; Robert Spano, music director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; and David Bamberger, general director of the Cleveland Opera.
McLeod, who sings mezzo-soprano, was praised for her “stunning vocal power” in the title role of Carmer Asheville Lyric Opera. She has also had roles in “Hansel and Gretel” (Connecticut Opera), “Die Fledermaus” (Greensboro Opera), “The Magic Flute” (Houston Ebony Opera), and “The Tempest” (Long Leaf Opera). McLeod has appeared as a soloist with the North Carolina Symphony and the New Britain Symphony.
Adult admission is $5., senior citizen admission is $4., and non-Concord student admission is $2.00.
