Homer Ball Golf Tourney Continues to Fund Scholarships at Concord
Athens, W.Va. - The annual Homer Ball Golf Tournament commenced at 8:30 a.m. at Pipestem State Resort Park. Concord University stalwart, Homer Ball, directed more than 70 participants in the Captain’s Choice tournament.
This year’s tournament provided about $13,000 in scholarship support through the Concord University Foundation.
Winning first place with a score of 58 in the men’s division were Tom Pennington, Bob Neff, Mike Sheets and Chad Sheets. First Citizens Bank in Lewisburg sponsored them. Winning second place with a score of 61 in the men’s division were Jim White, Mike Ramey, Chris Palushin and Keith Schleicher.
Bill Hopkins with First Community Bank won the grand prize at the tournament, a two-night and three-day stay for two persons at The Greenbrier. Gary Bowan won second prize, four rounds of golf at the Stonewall Resort and Philip Ball won third prize, a round of golf at the Pete Dye Golf Club.

Monica Muncy from Princeton, a volunteer with AmeriCorps and the CCC (Civilian Community Corporation), helped at the tournament. Youth between the ages of 18 to 24 may volunteer for a 10-month stint of community service and disaster relief with the service organization.
