CU Faculty Member Wins Award
Athens, W.Va. – Dr. Stephen D. Rowe, library director and professor of English at Concord University, was named to receive one of two Executive Director’s Awards at the national convention of the Alpha Chi Honor Society. The Society’s convention was held in San Antonio, Texas, from March 15 through the 18.
Dr. Rowe, who has been the sponsor of Concord’s West Virginia Beta Chapter of the Alpha Chi Honor Society since 1998, received a $500 cash award as well as recognition by Dr. Dennis Organ, AX executive director, as one of Alpha Chi’s outstanding chapter sponsors.
In his introduction of the award, Dr. Organ noted that Rowe was the founding sponsor of the Indiana Lambda AX chapter at the Indiana Institute of Technology, the founding sponsor of the West Virginia Epsilon chapter at West Liberty State College and the current sponsor of the West Virginia Beta chapter at Concord University.
Concord was granted its Alpha Chi chapter in 1967, and over 700 Concord students have been honored by AX membership since that time. In the 2007-2008 academic year, Alpha Chi will celebrate its 40th year of recognizing the exemplary scholarship and character of Concord students.
