Generous Donors Provide Funds to Purchase 100 Uniforms for CU Marching Band
Athens, W.Va. – David A. Barnette, Chair of the Concord University Foundation, recently announced that generous donations from the Jeanne and Lawson Hamilton Foundation of Lewisburg and Evelyn Lilly Blake of Daleville, Va., in the amount of $50,000 will go toward the purchase of 100 new band uniforms for the Concord University Marching Band.
“These gifts will mean so much to our students who perform throughout the year in representing Concord University. With the new uniforms we believe that we can be more proud than ever of our responsibility to represent this fine institution,” quoted Dr. Andy Necessary, director of the Concord Marching Band.
Dr. Necessary enlisted the help of students and alumni in the design process of the uniforms, which will be delivered, most likely, this December.
“It was just time for us to clothe our band in appropriate attire for a University. I only wish we could have done this four years sooner,” said David Barnette. “The marching band is one of the most visible arms of the University and brings so much goodwill on behalf of the University.”
