CU Commencement This Saturday—Watch Online
Athens, W.Va. – Concord University will be hosting the 133rd annual spring commencement, 10 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2008, in the Main Gymnasium of the Leslie R. and Ruby Webb Carter Center in Athens. This is the 137th year of the University.
As a convenience to those who will not be able to attend, the University will be providing the commencement ceremony online. Log on to www.concord.edu, and click on the graphic on the main page.
The University has six valedictorians (all W.Va. residents): Ashley Gillespie from Bluefield, Bryan Henderson from Piney View, Corey Meadows from Bluefield, Alan Pack from Hinton, Misty Reuschel from Cool Ridge, and Devon Stewart from Oceana.
The registrar’s office reports that 246 undergraduate candidates have submitted applications for graduation and eight graduate candidates have submitted applications for graduation for a total of 254 applications. Concord’s most popular area of study is teacher education, and this program will graduate 29 students at this commencement. There are 209 students from West Virginia, and 45 students are from out-of-state. International graduates will represent the following nations: Japan, Bulgaria, Germany, Canada, Ireland, and Nigeria.
This commencement will also be the last for Dr. Jerry Beasley, president of Concord, who will be retiring this year.
