Theme and Music Announced for 22nd Annual Athens-Concord Town Social
Athens, W.Va. – Get ready to enjoy toe-tappin’ music, free food, and great company at the 22nd annual Athens-Concord Town Social, to be held Sunday, August 10 on the front lawn of Concord University from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The theme for this year’s event will be “A Celebration of Jean Beasley’s Service,” paying homage to Mrs. Jean Beasley’s years of selfless and dedicated service to the success of the Athens-Concord Town Social. She, and her husband, Concord University President, Dr. Jerry Beasley, were involved in the very first social held in 1986. Mrs. Beasley has been involved in all socials through 2007, helping volunteers from the community and Concord University organize a happy and fun-filled afternoon full of events for area residents. Typically, 500 to 800 attend the annual event.
Local entertainers have also agreed to perform, including Ed Hartman’s Midnight Ramblers, performing blue grass and old-time music from 1:30 p.m. to 2:35 p.m. The Midnight Ramblers are perennial favorites of Town Social guests. Awards will be given out between 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. New this year will be Poor Taters, a local group that features music described as Americana, acoustic, and “bluegrassy.” They will be performing from 3:15 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.
ARAMARK provides the fixin’s for the free-of-charge picnic. So, mark your calendar for this annual event, sure to please even the most discriminating tastes!
Vendors are invited to set up a booth, free-of-charge, to display and sell their handicrafts.
