Concord University Symphonic Band to Perform Spring Concert Thursday, April 30
Athens, W.Va. – The Concord University Symphonic Band performs their Spring Concert Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 7 p.m. in the Main Theater of the Alexander Fine Arts Center.
Under the direction of Laura Zamzow, band director and assistant professor of music, the band will perform such standards as Ralph Vaughan Williams, Charles Ives and Robert Russell Bennett. Modern works by composers such as Frank Ticheli and David Holsinger will also be incorporated into the concert.
“We're featuring a work by popular composer Eric Whitacre titled ‘Sleep,’” Zamzow commented. “It's a beautiful and moving arrangement of the choral version. We will close the concert with the exciting ‘To the Summit!’ by Robert W. Smith.”
The music for this concert is full of a rich diversity of musical styles and spotlights many of Concord’s talented instrumentalists.
The public is invited, and there is no charge for attendance.
