Summer Theater at CU Begins Wednesday, July 1
Athens, W.Va. – The Concord University repertory theater will present a series of plays beginning Wednesday, July 1 through Friday, July 11.
“Spoon River Anthology” by Edgar Lee Masters will be performed Wednesday, July 1, Saturday, July 4, and Friday, July 10.
“The Zoo Story” by Edward Albee will be performed Thursday, July 2, and Wednesday, July 8.
“The Fantasticks” with lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt will be performed Friday, July 3, Sunday, July 5, Thursday, July 9, and Saturday, July 11.
Dr. Thomas C. “Tom” Gambill, professor of communication arts and theater director will be directing the plays. Mr. Joshua T. Miller, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities and vocal studies and will be directing the music.
Mr. Miller said, “This is one of the strongest casts I’ve ever worked with. The students are not only extremely talented but have worked very hard to polish the production to a professional level.”
Dr. Gambill noted that, “We wanted to try this, and we did and it’s been quite successful. We look forward to doing it again in the future.”
Students who will be performing include: Matt Browning from Gary, Mike Browning from Gary, Jed Dempsey from Summersville, Mike Dorsey from Galax, Va., Jesalyn Lucas from Summersville, Chandra Sheppard from Summersville, Jordan Stadvec from Princeton, Christin Walker from Egeria, and John Wisman from White Oak.
All performances will begin at 8 p.m. in the H.C. Paul Theater in the Alexander Fine Arts Center at Concord University. The public is invited to attend, and there is no charge for admission. For more information, call 304-384-5275 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
