Concord University Artist Lecture Series Featuring The Dave Fox Group
ATHENS – The Dave Fox Group will bring their progressive approach to acoustic piano style jazz to the Alexander Fine Arts Center at Concord University Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 at 7 p.m.
The Greensboro, N.C. based quartet’s show is an Artist Lecture Series event.
The group’s current line-up features some of today’s well-known jazz improvisers: Pat Lawrence on acoustic bass; Chip Newton on guitar; Jon Marc Ryan Dale on drums; and Dave Fox on piano. Together they have garnered a reputation as an eclectic, inventive ensemble playing at colleges, universities and festivals across the country.
In addition to favorites from legends such as Frank Zappa, they will perform songs from three CDs: Their critically-acclaimed debut album “Gatewalk;” “If These Songs Could Talk;” and their most recent release “Home Again.”
Eddie Becton of The Lamp says, “Fox not only pushes the envelope, he simply ignites it.” According to Joshua Musselwhite of Jazz Improv Magazine, “All members of the group draw upon every ounce of musicianship they have to pull off some remarkable stuff. The variety of sounds that can come from one instrument is amazing. . . . Their combination of free and traditional jazz yields a unique and highly satisfying experience for the listener.”
Tickets for The Dave Fox Group’s performance are available through the Concord University Box Office at www.ConcordUEvents.com and by calling (304) 384-5101 or emailing BoxOffice@concord.edu. Admission is free for Concord faculty, staff and students. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $2 for non-Concord students with identification.
