Energy Saving Renovations Completed On Concord University's Fine Arts Building
ATHENS, W.Va. - Concord University announces completion of energy saving HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) renovations to the Alexander Fine Arts Building on the Athens Campus.
Renovation of the existing boiler plant included removal and replacement of existing boilers and associated equipment service. In addition, Direct Digital Controls (DDC) were installed as part of an energy performance contract designed to reduce utility costs on the university campus. The controls were expanded to accommodate the equipment installed as part of this project, therefore further reducing energy consumption.
Energy savings are generated from improved boiler efficiencies, which will result in gas savings. Electrical energy savings are realized due to improved pumping efficiencies and reduced fan operating hours. It is estimated that this project will save 596,300,000 BTUs annually.
Trane of Roanoke, Va. was the general contractor performing the work.
The $1,000,000 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project was supported by the Department of Energy under award number DE-EE0000113. This energy program was a cooperative effort of the West Virginia Division of Energy and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
