CONCORD UNIVERSITY MUSIC DEPARTMENT HONORING VETERANS
IN UPCOMING CONCERT
ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University’s choral and band groups will be featured in a fall concert on Thursday, Nov. 15. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the Alexander Fine Arts Center’s Main Auditorium. The Alexander Fine Arts Center is located on Concord’s Athens, W.Va. campus at 1000 Vermillion Street.
The Concert Band, Collegiate Singers, ConChords, Women’s and Men’s Ensemble, and Ladies Ensemble will all be performing. These groups will also be collaborating with the audio visual students on campus, to provide visual projection during two of the songs.
This concert will be celebrating and paying tribute to America and members of the armed forces. Dr. Keely Rhodes, director of vocal studies said, “Concord University is a veteran friendly school, and also has one of the highest enrollments of veterans.” In honor of this, the groups decided to dedicate the theme of their fall concert to the pride Concord University takes in its veterans, and how appreciative the University is of their service.
All service members and their families are invited and encouraged to attend this free event. This year’s groups are under the direction of Dr. Rhodes and Dr. Laura E. Zamzow, director of bands/assistant professor of music.
There is no admission to attend, however, the groups will be accepting donations during the concert to help pay for future choral and band events.
