‘LADYBEARD’ TO SCREEN AT CONCORD UNIVERSITY
ATHENS, W.Va. – “Ladybeard,” an independent feature-length romantic comedy shot and produced completely in West Virginia, will screen on Wednesday, May 1, at 8 p.m. at Concord University in Room 237 of the Administration Building. The screening of “Ladybeard” will be part of the 2013 Concord University Gay-Straight Alliance Pride Week.
“Ladybeard” is about a comedian who pretends to date his lesbian best friend in order to hide her sexual orientation from her conservative family. When the comedian learns that his friend plans to come out, he fears that their friendship will end along with their fake relationship. With the help of a traveling performance artist, the comedian sets out to stop his friend from coming out of the closet.
“Ladybeard” was shot in Huntington and Charleston with a completely local cast and crew. The film was written and directed by David Smith. Jason Brown, the film’s executive producer, is an alumnus of Concord. “Ladybeard” recently had its premiere in Morgantown at the Mountaineer Film Festival, and it was one of only two feature films selected to screen at the Appalachian Film Festival in Huntington.
