ATHENS, W.Va. - Homecoming at Concord University is set for Sept. 30 – Oct. 6, 2013. The annual weeklong celebration is packed with festivities for alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the University.
The Homecoming football game will be played on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Mountain Lions take on the Fairmont State Falcons at Callaghan Stadium. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
Activities are scheduled throughout Homecoming Week. A tradition among Greek organizations and other campus groups is the annual competition for Homecoming Royalty ending with the announcement of the winners at halftime during the football game.
During Concord’s annual Homecoming Parade, candidates and members of their organizations will display floats, banners and costumes as part of the competition. Billboards will also be located around campus. Theme for 2013 is “Grimm’s Fairy Tales.”
The parade is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. on Vermillion Street in Athens. After the parade Concord homecoming tradition continues with a bonfire in the Valley.
The Career Symposium, in its fifth year at Concord, will be held on Friday, Oct. 4. Sponsored by Concord University’s Advancement/Career Services Office, the event will connect current students with alumni. Concord graduates will speak on a wide variety of career options and offer helpful employment tips for undergraduates. The symposium will allow students to talk with alumni and make important business connections that can be used in obtaining internships or jobs.

The annual Alumni Reception and Pig Roast are scheduled for Oct. 4 at University Point. The reception begins at 5 p.m. in the Pais Fellowship Hall followed by the pig roast at 6 p.m.

Game day festivities on Oct. 5 include a number of activities. A Wedding Vow Renewal for Concord couples will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Wilkes Family Chapel at University Point.

In celebration of their 50th anniversary, members of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity will hold a time capsule dedication at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place on the lawn between the Jerry and Jean Beasley Student Center and Sarvey Hall.
An Open House will be held at the President’s House from 12 noon to 1 p.m. The Lion’s Den Tailgate opens at 12 noon at the football stadium main lot. This event is reserved for invited guests and members of the Concord University Alumni Association.
A post-game concert featuring The Boatmen and Gage will be held on the Carter Center Lawn. There is no admission charge. Tau Kappa Epsilon will hold an alumni golf outing at Pipestem State Park on Sunday, Oct. 6.
