ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will honor veterans in two upcoming events on the Athens campus.
The University’s annual Veterans Appreciation Ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at 12 noon in the Wilkes Family Chapel in University Point.
Concord’s Veterans Committee is sponsor of this yearly salute to the contributions and sacrifices of U.S. military veterans and service personnel. Major General James Hoyer, adjutant general of the West Virginia National Guard, has been selected to receive the Veterans Advocate of the Year Award.
Concord will also participate in the National Remembrance Day Roll Call on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, 2013. The event will be held at the Subway stage in the Jerry and Jean Beasley Student Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Now in its third year, this nationwide grass-roots effort honors American servicemen and women who have served, are serving, and those who died in service to the nation. Individuals will be recognized by name in ceremonies on college and university campuses across the United States. A nationwide simultaneous minute of silence will be observed at 11 a.m. PST (2 p.m. at Concord.)
