CONCORD UNIVERSITY TO HOST NATIONAL BONE MARROW REGISTRY

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will host a national bone marrow registry for three-year-old West Virginian “Daniel” on Tuesday April 7 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Subway Sides Conference Room, which is located on the bottom floor of the Jerry L. and Jean Beasley Student Center on Concord’s main Athens campus.

Orlando Gray, a senior Concord student and the organizer of this event, said, “I became aware of Daniel and his story soon after I arranged for ‘Be the Match’ to do a registry drive at Concord. In order to bring more attention to his story and raise awareness, my contact at ‘Be the Match’ thought it would be a good idea to incorporate his story into the event here at Concord to bring attention to it. You never know, his best match might be found here at Concord University.”

Individuals who would like to join the registry may come to this event, and get their cheeks swabbed to join the registry and possibly one day be a match for somebody who needs a lifesaving bone marrow transplant.

The registry does not cost anything for people to participate. It does however cost the registry money to add people to it. In order to help them offset their costs, Gray will be doing fundraising activities on campus, which will be announced at a later date.

Gray said, “I am hoping to get at least a dollar from everybody who attends Concord University.”

For any questions or curiosity about Daniel’s story please visit www.bethematch.org or contact Orlando Gray at grayo23@mycu.concord.edu
