CONCORD UNIVERSITY CELEBRATING ALUMNI WEEKEND

 

 ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will celebrate Alumni Weekend April 24 – 26, 2015. A number of activities are planned on the Athens campus for the University’s alumni and friends along with all members of the Concord community.

“We are looking forward to an exciting weekend full of a variety of activities and hope to see many alumni and friends of Concord return to campus for some or all of the scheduled events,” Alumni Director Sarah Turner said.

Participants are invited to start the weekend early with an evening at the theater. “Crimes of the Heart,” a Concord theater production, will be performed in the HC Paul Theatre on Wednesday, April 22, Thursday, April 23, Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. Susan Lawrence ’87 will present “Professionalism in the Workplace” at 2 p.m. on April 23 in the Pais Fellowship Hall in University Point. Lawrence is owner of Class Advantage Image, Inc.

Festivities continue on April 24 with the annual Greek Sing Competition at 8 p.m. in the Carter Center Main Gym.

Activities begin on April 25 with a Reunion Brunch at 10 a.m. in the Pais Fellowship Hall in University Point. Alumni who are members of graduating classes ending in “0” or “5” will be admitted free of charge. Cost for the brunch for anyone not a member of a class ending in “0” or “5” is $5. The Concord University Bookstore will be open on April 25 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Campus tours will begin at 11 a.m. from the University Point Front Desk.

The Mountain Lions take to the field for the Spring Football Game on April 25. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Callaghan Stadium. Prior to the game, an Alumni Tailgate will be held outside of the stadium beginning at 12 noon.

The Concord University Alumni Association, Inc. (CUAA) will hold its Spring Banquet on April 25 in the Pais Fellowship Hall in University Point. A reception will begin at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Cost for the banquet is $20 for current CUAA members. Cost for all other guests is $25 in advance and $30 at the door. The CUAA will present four awards to alumni for outstanding achievements and service. Awards being presented include Alumnus of the Year, Outstanding Alumnus, Golden Alumnus and Young Alumnus.

Award recipients are: Alumnus of the Year – Sarah Turner ’98; Outstanding Alumnus – Linda Poff ’76; Golden Alumnus – Robert Gallione ’68; and, Young Alumnus – Brad Lane ’02 ’03, Jessica Lilly ’07, and, Andrew Wright ’04.

Alumni Weekend activities continue on April 26 with an Alumni Memorial Service at 10 a.m. in the Wilkes Family Chapel in University Point.

A Farewell Brunch will begin at 10:30 a.m. on April 26 in the Libby Alvis Dining Hall in the Jerry L. and Jean Beasley Student Center.

Alumni who are interested in helping graduates look their best at commencement are invited to volunteer to steam graduation gowns on Friday and Saturday of Alumni Weekend. The gown steaming will take place at University Point. Persons interested in volunteering may arrange a time by emailing alumni@concord.edu or calling 304-384-6311.
