 CONCORD UNIVERSITY HOLDS 140TH SPRING COMMENCEMENT

 

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University held its 140th Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 9, 2015 in the main gym of the Leslie R. and Ruby Webb Carter Center.

Two ceremonies were held to accommodate the number of graduates and their families and guests. The morning ceremony began at 10 a.m. and an afternoon ceremony started at 2 p.m.  

Concord’s registrar’s office reports that 68 graduate candidates applied for graduation along with 286 undergraduate candidates.  Among the graduates are 99 individuals who graduated with honors.

Valedictorians for the Spring 2015 class are Mariah Danielle Farley of Athens, W.Va. and Laken Cheyenne McKenzie of Princeton, W.Va.

Farley received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, summa cum laude, and a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude. Her majors were finance and mathematics.

McKenzie received a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude. Her major was psychology.

An honorary degree was presented to Mr. Victor Grigoraci during the 10 a.m. ceremony. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities, honoris causa. A graduate of Concord, Mr. Grigoraci has built an outstanding career as an accountant. He is a resident of Charleston, W.Va.

Candidates meeting requirements for graduation in May 2015 and those who will qualify for graduation in July 2015 participated in the commencement ceremonies.

Candidates for graduation participated in a ceremony based on their fields of study. The morning ceremony included candidates for Master of Education and Master of Arts in Teaching and undergraduates from the divisions of Business, Education and Fine Arts.

Participating in the afternoon ceremony were candidates for Master of Social Work and Master of Health Promotion and undergraduates from the divisions of Humanities; Science, Mathematics & Health; and Social Sciences along with undergraduates in Interdisciplinary Studies and the Regents Bachelor of Arts program.

In addition to candidates for graduation from West Virginia, candidates from out-of-state represent: Alaska, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia.

International graduates represent Canada, Japan, Russia, Scotland, Spain and Sweden. The Spring 2015 class includes seven veterans.

A reception was held on the front lawn of the Carter Center following both ceremonies.

Concord University’s Technology Services Department recorded both the morning and afternoon commencement ceremonies.   DVDs may be purchased for $20 each by calling 304-384-5126. (Please specify morning or afternoon ceremony.) DVDs will be shipped within four to six weeks of commencement.
