MERCER COUNTY STUDENTS, FLOOD VICTIMS

BENEFITING FROM CONCORD UNIVERSITY’S STUFF THE BUS

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University’s Stuff the Bus is collecting school supplies for Mercer County children in need and students impacted by the recent flooding in West Virginia. The group will be set up at the Princeton Walmart to collect donations on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Stuff the Bus provides students with classroom basics from pencils, notebooks and pens, to crayons, colored pencils and backpacks. This is the fourth year Concord has participated in the project, assisting children across southern West Virginia.

For the upcoming Aug. 6 collection, Concord’s Stuff the Bus is partnering with WVNS-TV to assist victims of the recent flooding in West Virginia. Fifty percent of the collection will go to the Mercer County Board of Education for Mercer County students and 50 percent will be distributed with the support of WVNS to flood victims in southern West Virginia.

“We’re happy to be able to partner with our friends and neighbors at Concord to support those children in our communities in need. All the children that we will help deserve to start their school year off on a positive note,” said Al Sandubrae, 59News General Manager.

“We are excited to partner with WVNS 59 on our upcoming Stuff the Bus event,” said CU’s Stuff the Bus coordinator Pam Wallace. “With their support we know that we will be able to collect more supplies so that we can help more kids in our area.”

Thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses, Concord’s Stuff the Bus has provided supplies to children in Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Mercer, Wyoming and Kanawha counties since the University began working with the project. Concord donates the supplies that are collected through Stuff the Bus to county boards of education and the boards then distribute the supplies to children with the greatest need.
