Etiquette Dinner Planned for Concord University Students
ETIQUETTE DINNER PLANNED FOR CONCORD UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University students will have the opportunity to brush up on their table manners at an upcoming Etiquette Dinner.
The dinner, which has been held for a dozen years or so at Concord, is scheduled for Monday, April 16 at 5 p.m. in the Student Center State Room.
Event organizer and instructor Tammy Monk says understanding and using proper etiquette is an important skill for job seekers. Monk is Director, Advancement/Career Services at Concord and a certified etiquette trainer through At Ease Inc.
“It’s a very competitive environment in the job search world today,” she said. “New college graduates have to be prepared for the challenge that lies ahead. A professional resume, interview skills, work experience, involvement in activities and a strong academic record are all vital to the process, but employers want more. Soft skills and manners could be what tips the scale in favor of one candidate over another.
“Today many interviews involve a meal as a part of the interview process and we want our students to feel comfortable if they find themselves in that situation,” she said. “It’s all about being as prepared as possible to put your best foot forward.”
Monk said the topics she will discuss at the dinner include how to hold silverware, the correct way to eat a roll/bread, how to cut meat, which utensil to use for which food, how to pass the salt and pepper, and how to signal the server when finished with the meal.
The student dinner guests will learn these tips and more as they dine on their choice of pan seared salmon or duck with raspberry sauce.
Students can register for the dinner on-line by going to Concord’s website (www.concord.edu) and clicking on the Current Students tab, then Etiquette Dinner Reservation. There is no charge for students to attend.
The dinner is sponsored by Aramark and Career/Advancement Services. Dress for the evening is business casual/business professional.
