CONCORD UNIVERSITY BOARD OF GOVERNORS ACTS ON RECOMMENDATIONS OF PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Board of Governors (BOG) convened a special meeting today (March 12) in Athens to hear recommendations of the Presidential Search Committee. Following an executive session, the board approved a motion to bring two applicants for the position of Concord’s 12th president to campus to meet with constituent groups. The board also approved a motion that the University’s current interim president, Dr. Kendra Boggess, be among the candidates for the position of president of Concord.

The applicants are Dr. J. Mark Estepp, current president of Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, Va., and Dr. Steve Condon, president of Laurel University in High Point, N.C.

Board of Governors Chair Mr. Elliot Hicks said that the University will schedule interviews between each of the three candidates and the University’s constituent groups.

“We will schedule on-campus interviews with the constituency groups for a time in the very near future and these will be publicly announced so that everyone will have the fullest opportunity to participate in those meetings and interviews,” he said.

Dr. Estepp holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts education from Berea College, a master’s degree in industrial arts education from Murray State University, and a Ph.D. in practical arts – concentration in higher education leadership – from the University of Missouri.

Dr. Condon received a bachelor’s degree in education from Boston State College, a master’s degree in education from Florida State University, and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Mississippi. He has also done post doctoral work at Harvard University.

Dr. Boggess holds an associate degree from St. Petersburg Junior College, a bachelor’s degree in business education from the University of Florida, a master’s degree in vocational technical education from Virginia Tech, and a Ph.D. in business education with a cognate in business management from Virginia Tech.
